(that was a vague attempt at the Dambusters theme. Which of course were bombers, but there is a link...)
Anyway, yesterday, seventy years after the first test flight took to the sky, five Spitfires took to the sky above Southampton water in a parade of honour. And I was there to watch it.
The applause was great, but better still was the 'salute' from one of the ships in harbour (Southampton is one of the major commercial harbours in Britain with cruise ships and merchant shipping). Odd to the think that thousands of people trooped to watch something which sixty years ago would have brought fear into the hearts of enemy pilots and citizens.
