Dear Ann, I have just read your book, I could not put it down, I have never read a book so quickly.
You are a brave strong woman, my heart was breaking,
from one mum to another, you have changed history, and
Im sure that other innocent families will benefit.
I feel I know you, and your beautiful daughter Julie.

I think part of the post-funeral "wake" tradition recognises that collective mourning is a necessary part of society. Whilst it is fashionable to talk of "celebrating the life" I think much of it is in grieving the death (and of course, part of that is to share a collective memory of the departed). On the other hand, the receptions after the death more…

They sound yummy. To celebrate the life rather than grieve the death? I do have a problem with "parties" after funerals, I just can't help it. Happy baking though more…

New York is always good, especially with a company credit card and a rich generous tasty work colleague who fancies the pants of you and enjoys massaging feet...ahh bliss!
But in the real world York is getting run over by a herd of manic humans all wanting to get from A to B at the same time on the same side walk - even worse if you're more…

Stephanie and I have only recently taken our first tentative steps into breadmaking. The first lot of loaves were very stodgy and I think we were a little over ambitious; teying to run before we could walk. We went back to the beginning and started with soda breads then moved onto plain white bread. We recently discovered a farm shop in Essex that more…

Congrats on the driving, and good news about Mr F.
Yes: that cartoon is amazing. God willing, I may get there to see it one day. Roughly, how far is Bayeux from Calais (or Paris)?
Great photos too: thanks for sharing. more…

I went to Bayeux years and years ago (end of a family holiday, so it must be a good 20 years ago) - it *is* a very impressive cartoon, isn't it? Glad the driving on the wrong side of the road went OK - I've done it before, but in a car that had the steering wheel on the wrong side as well, so it didn't feel so weird. It would feel very odd drivin more…

And for you also! From my experience, in Canada, once you get going driving on the other side is alright -- especially when following others [I kept looking to the right for the rear-vision mirror though! :)] more…

Very interesting: as I am very much the same. I keep being told I should aim higher, that I could do (and get paid) more, but I am happy where I am -- most of the time. I have no great ambitions, except to try and reflect Christ in all and to all: and that'll probably take me the rest of my life! :) more…

Funnily enough, I've never got on with Booker prizewinners either. Haven't read a single one I've liked or understood (admittedly I think I've only read 2 all the way through, but I've tried about 3 others), so now I don't bother, unless my book group decides to read one (so far thankfully it hasn't). more…

Hi, thanks for the extra publicity - I think it's so sad that nobody's being forward thinking enough to realise the great contribution that these types of allotments make to a community, or trying to think creatively about how they can be incorporated into the Olympic site rather than bulldozed. The link you copied to the e-petition has come up wi more…
